BIO
Hi! I'm Ryann Bloom and I'm a sophomore at the University of Maryland. I'm double majoring in Criminology & Criminal Justice and Psychology, and am in the Public Leadership Scholars Program.

I have always been an outgoing, passionate person in almost everything that I do. If I find something that I love, there is nothing that can stop me from finding ways to continue to do that thing. For example, I love my Judaism and my Jewish community. So when I found out about an opportunity to spend a semester abroad, I did everything in my power to make sure I took it. When there was a scheduling conflict for one of my last temple youth group events of the year, I worked it out with my entire family to ensure that I would be there. And when I want to be a leader, I make sure that I am able to make a difference in the lives of those around me. There is much that I hope to get out of Public Leadership Scholars. In my Jewish community back home, I strived to be a leader, and in many ways, I was. I interned at a huge Jewish nonprofit in my community and was co-president of my temple youth group for two years. Outside of my Jewish community, I babysat for a family of four children, and also was a counselor at camp for kids ages six to twelve.
Coming into college, I hoped to grow as a leader in not just my Jewish community, but in all communities. In my positions at home, I was able to realize that I was meant to be a leader. However, I still sometimes struggle with public speaking, especially around those that I am not comfortable with. My internship helped me begin to learn about reaching out to those that I am not familiar with, but I want to learn more. Being in Public Leadership will hopefully help me develop those skills, and be the absolute best leader that I can be.
